I’ll be there

jazzfest

New Orleans Jazz Festival   Turk Murphy Columbia Records   THE New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival started in 1970 with performances by Mahalia Jackson and Duke Ellington, Pete Fountain, Al Hirt, Clifton Chenier, Fats Domino, The Meters, The Preservation Hall Band and included parades every day with The Olympia Brass Band and Mardi Gras Indians.   I’ve been to “JazzFest” six times since 1990 and plan on returning this year in April.   I’ve seen everyone from Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bob Dylan to countless blues, soul, gospel and zydeco acts over the years.   It’s a music and food and good time orgy of non-stop fun.

New Orleans will be jumping with their winning SAINTS and upcoming Mardi Gras!

My trip to JazzFest in 1993 was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Saw and heard Dylan, Wynton Marsalis, Jean Knight, Allen Touissant, Snooks Eaglin, Johnny Adams, Tyrone Davis, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, and tons more gospel, zydeco, blues, jazz, and EVERYTHING! Gotta go back…

These chicks on the cover look too uptight to flash their boobs for Mardi Gras beads.

Great cover! I’ve been going to Jazz Fest since 1975. The cover art looks very 50s-60s, but the festival didn’t begin until 1971. Must have been an early fest when this was recorded.

BTW, it’s the tourists who flash each other for beads, not the locals.

The woman in front looks like she’s about to scream “There’s letters OVER MY HEAD!”

As far as I know, New Orleans has never looked like the LP cover.
