“Shaftman” Rated X. From the cover: “Take a trip to Soultown, USA. with this hard-pumping, lip-biting divorce detective, hired to put the screws to his client’s wife. Listen to the action-packed dramatization as you are taken through the streets and by-ways of Harlem, in this bold, ball-busting, private dick thriller.”

Jackie “Moms” Mabley at The Playboy Club. Chess Records. (1961) Moms debuted in the twenties with Butterbeans and Susie at the Cotton Club, suffered racism on the chitlin circuit, was a regular at the Apollo for years and her album sales in the sixties made her the highest charting comedienne in Billboard history. I seem to remember her on TV doing the Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas talk show circuit. I think she took her teeth out and talked funny. A legend.

Laff Records “Dynamite’s Soul Christmas”
A great little party Christmas album from Jimmy Pelham — recorded in a style that’s somewhere between that of early Redd Foxx, and later work by Blowfly! Jimmy’s talking and singing throughout — telling some off-color stories and mixing in song parodies — all before a very enthusiastic audience!
An evening with Rozelle Gayle “Like Be My Guest” on Mercury “for adult listening”.
Jimmy “The Funky Tramp” Lynch — “He Do’s It Again” “Everything he do’s is funky. Everything he says is funky. He is just plain funky!” Check out the jugs of “Black Lightening” and “Liquid Marijuana”!!
Shocking! Turning the Zodiac into a chart of afro-topped couples in sexual positions! Like a black John and Yoko (though clearly not “Two Virgins.”). The best is that this guy’s face is photoshopped onto mandingo’s body. You can listen to some of this here.

When was the last time you were at a party like this? I won’t file this under “cheesecake”. Blowfly made lots of crude, offensive and funny records on the Weird World label. His cover “art” is in a class of its own. There are many black comedy records that are “adult” or “risque” from the fifties, sixties and seventies. I like this one
