Clay Tyson “Digs The Beatniks” “Spick-boo, dad! Winley Records (Check out his zoot suit!)
“Shaftman” Rated X. From the cover: “Take a trip to Soultown, USA. with this hard-pumping, lip-biting divorce detective, hired to put the screws to his client’s wife. Listen to the action-packed dramatization as you are taken through the streets and by-ways of Harlem, in this bold, ball-busting, private dick thriller.”
Jackie “Moms” Mabley at The Playboy Club. Chess Records. (1961) Moms debuted in the twenties with Butterbeans and Susie at the Cotton Club, suffered racism on the chitlin circuit, was a regular at the Apollo for years and her album sales in the sixties made her the highest charting comedienne in Billboard history. I seem to remember her on TV doing the Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas talk show circuit. I think she took her teeth out and talked funny. A legend.
12 side-splitting his by Hattie Noel and Billy Mitchell. Dootone Novelty Series. I don’t know Billy’s work, but I’d like to learn more based on this photo.
The Johnny Otis Show, Live! with Booty “I’ll put my mojo double-love pakka-mame on!!!” Green on Laff Records. These Laff LP covers were all designed by Howard Goldstein with photography by Bud Fraker.
