“Today’s Top Hits” by the HOMESTEAD (?) on Homestead Records (of course) 1979 Featuring bad recreations of chart toppers of the day, like Randy Newman’s “Short People,” one of the greatest politically incorrect songs of all time.

“Short People” is far from politically incorrect. Listen to ALL the lyrics. Newman is satirizing bigotry by changing it to an unusual target to show how foolish it looks. The key to the song, for the irony-impaired, is at the end of the chorus:
“Short people are just the same as you and I
All men are brothers until the day we die
It’s a wonderful world.”

I would hope that most of those here would have caught the irony, but thanks for laying it out. And “Vertically Challenged People” isn’t very catchy.

This LP was not unlike many of it’s time, with group names like, “Dimentional Sound”. The way to tell if the company was on the level was if the ads said, “Original Hits by the Original Stars” or something to that effect. The TV ads would give themselves away if you saw lists of songs…but no artists. My fave is from Alshire Records and the group is listed as the “California Poppy-Pickers”. I think my life is enriched by men with southern accents singing about how they live in a “yaller” submarine.
K-Tel and Adam VIII were usually OK about this, but K-Tel’s oldies records sometimes featured re-recordings, whether it was from a new group or new recordings by the old group.

That’s how I dressed back in the day. And I still do today for the most part. Especially when I play music. The neat part is I can still fit and look good in my vintage clothing. I drive my fellow classmates crazy at reunions. Hey, my girlfriend is nearly twenty five years younger than me so I must be doing something right. It must be my good (bell bottom) genes!

There was a punk/hardcore/indie label in the 80’s called Homestead Records. I really don’t suppose this is the same company!
@Way Back Now! Lets Go… – Go ahead, rub it in!
Seriously, it’s truly amazing how many pounds you’ll end up losing by eliminating fast food, sugary snacks and all the other crap from your diet. If I have a choice between a hot fudge sundae and a hottie…

re: Short People
Yes, and Newman sings “the fools such as I” as part of that…

Yesterday at the 136th Kentucky Derby, when the jockeys were walking to their posts to mount up, how come the band didn’t play FOLLOW THE YELLOWBRICK ROAD from the Wizard of Oz?
