Wrt Starlets — au contraire I owned one for 12 yrs and put 210K miles on it with no major repairs needed. My Ex put 205K on hers over 14 yrs and had the same good fortune wrt need for repairs. This was back in the 80s – early 90s. It was great on gas as well: I averaged low 40s over the life of the car.

The starlet was rare, due to importation limits. It had such good mileage, that the big 3 complained, and restricted it to a low number each year.
