"I’ve never seen the Toyota Starlet before (but I bet it was high maintenance)." I don't believe Toyota Starlet was a high maintenance car. I think Ryan is right; US government was protecting Detroit from imported cars, especially from Japanese cars.
It is odd to see Toyota cars and Manu Dibango in the same LP cover! Is this issued in France?

Okay class, can you tell me what these items all have in common? That's right, they're all out of style.

The starlet was rare, due to importation limits. It had such good mileage, that the big 3 complained, and restricted it to a low number each year.

Wrt Starlets -- au contraire :) I owned one for 12 yrs and put 210K miles on it with no major repairs needed. My Ex put 205K on hers over 14 yrs and had the same good fortune wrt need for repairs. This was back in the 80s - early 90s. It was great on gas as well: I averaged low 40s over the life of the car.
