The Art of Jim Flora

Jim Flora created one of the first influential graphic styles for lp packaging in the early 1950’s. His illustrations were on hundreds of covers and his style was copied by others. There are books that collect his work.

Jim Flora was one of the biggest influences on one of my best animation painters, Tim Biskup (www.timbiskup.com), who went on to be one of the bright stars of the Lobrow art movement in Los Angeles. I’d “known” Flora’s work in my jazz sense-memory, but never paid any attention to who the actual artist was or that he really had a ’style.’ But walking into Tm’s office/museum I really saw the work for the first time and have now become an avid appreciator.
