Songs for Gay Dogs

songsforgaydogs.jpg

I have a collection of records with titles that start “Songs of”. I’ve never seen a gay dog. Or heard any gay dog songs. But you have to love this cover of a man and the dog he loves. I love my dog too.

A crack in the case

batman.jpg

This one is really bizarre. Putting a comic book superhero on a cover with a naked woman is something you won’t see in most record store racks. Good thing as this could freak out a young Batman fan. The drawing of Batman is bad and the nude unattractive giving the overall presentation a sleazy, low-budget appeal.

The right time

night.jpg

This is a beautiful example of a 1950’s cheesecake cover from Liberty records. The dramatic lighting, the stylish pose, the shag rug, the cigarette smoke – even the cool lamp – set the stage for a record that promises seductive, easy-listening, bachelor pad music.

Robbie the Werewolf

robbie1.jpg

This is one of the rarest beatnik and monster-related lps. It was featured in the book “Incredibly Strange Music” (which is a guidepost to any collection like this). This is a small press, local record of a beat poet reciting in full werewolf get up at club in California in the early sixties.

Julie Newmar

How to Make Love to a Blonde  Gianni Monese and his Orchestra  Vox

A “how to” record every guy needs. This is Julie Newmar, a fifties pin-up queen and men’s mag mainstay. In the sixties she became Batwoman on the TV series “Batman”. Like the Bettie Page, a staple of any cheesecake collection.
