When I saw footage of Afrikaaners smiling and walking down the middle of the street, in blackface, I bitterly resented the fact that I sang the same song they were singing, when I was in elementary school, which was, “Marching Through Pretoria”.

once considered hal roach’s favourite film, it took decades to scrape together the extant pieces to have a definitive print. when i finally saw it, i cringed to think times were actually like this.
