Wanted man

November 26th, 2009 in DIY, Hall of Fame, Incredibly Strange, Real People with Real Problems, Wanted Records by lpcoverlover | 7 Comments

Sam

“Sing It Again, Sam!”  The inimitable song stylings of Sam Sacks  Arliss Records  For those unfamiliar with the wonder of WFMU’s Beware of the Blog let this be a welcome introduction.  Go to BOTB and listen to Sam’s fantastically awful mauling of standards.  A private recording on par with the best of the worst from Mrs. Miller, Lucia Pamela and Florence Foster Jenkins.  I gotta find a copy!

The story of “Sam I Am”

Sam owns the deli next door from this recording studio. Nearsighted Sam unknowingly wore his wife’s glasses on his way to work that day and well… The rest is history. OY VEY!

this LP is an intentional joke, we had a copy at the record store I worked at. The back cover syas it was recorded using the MOnroe 34-26-38 method or something

Apparently Sam Sacks performed for an audience of Jewish businessmen; his album is reviewed with four stars (!!!), per Billboard magazine, May 1, 1961, page 32, as a new release.
I wonder if this was Sam Sacks, of the Uneeda Shine Company and Acme Sales, circa 1951 or so?
