Kick out the jams (and jellies)

December 31st, 2008 in 45 Picture Sleeves, Crazy Xians, Wanted Records by lpcoverlover | 7 Comments

I love this one!   Thanks to Lp cover lover, Jan Andersson for sending it to us.   We’ve seen these ladies here before and they’re always welcome to sit in and jam.   Elna Fredhoy och Rigmor Odum sunger egna sanger. (We’d love to get some more information about these two, what kind of music it is, a translation — anyone?)

According to SLBA (The Swedish National Archive of Recorded Sound and Moving Images) databases they made two records, 7″. The publisher were Hemmets Härold “The Home Herald” which – together with the songs titles – probably makes it Christian music (Pentecostal). The title translates to “Elna Fredhöy and Rigmod Ödum sings their own songs” and it includes the songs “We believe in victory”, “Because He soon comes”, “I want more power” (hrm.. or “force”?) and “You soul that wanders upon soothing path” (or something similar).

“Elna Fredhöy and Rigmor Ödum sings their own songs.”

It’s in Swedish but their names sound Norwegian.

Their second 7″, released the year after – in 1968 – has norwegian songs on it:

“Disse sterke armer”, “Forny meg i Ã¥nden”, “Jeg önsker et möte med Golgata” and “Jeg skal se ham”, from the album “Elna Fredhøy och Rigmor Ødum sjunger till dragspel och gitarr” (“EF and RØ sings to guitarr and accordion”)

And even more trivia (Google is indeed your friend!):

    http://www.bokus.com/newsletters/Pdf/9789185476510.pdf

“Elna och Rigmor möttes 1954 i norska Frälsningsarmén. De reste runt som

sångevangelister, bland annat i USA 1959–60, och anslöt sig senare till pingst-

väckelsen. De skrev sitt eget material, spelade gitarr och elektroniskt dragspel.

Dessutom var de 1976 med om att grunda en hundklubb i Aurskog-Høland

(på gränsen till Värmland), där Elna var viceordförande och Rigmor redaktör

    för tidningen Voff-voff.”

“Elna and Rigmor met in the norwegian Salvation Army in 1954. They traveled as singing missonaries, inluding 1959-60 in the USA and joined later with the pentecostal revival. They wrote their own material and played the guitarr and the electronic accordion. They also were the founding members of a kennel club in Aurskog-Høland on the border between Sweden and Norway. Elna were the vice president and Rigmor editor for the journal Woof-woof”

Marten and others, I’ve listed two other records by this lovable duo which you can find under the Chicks With Guitars category.
