Jazz arranger Benny Golson (leader of The Jazztet) left Philadelphia for Los Angeles and became a successful TV and Film soundtack composer and producer.   In this mid-sixties concept album, he offers hip takes on the catchy commercial jingles of the day.

Inspired

img_0133.JPG

This would seem to be an outtake from the photo shoot, but it’s moody and intriguing. Is the model waiting for “inspiration” between shots? Warm color and soft back lighting and shadow make this a really elegant cover on the South American RCA label.     Orquestra Tipica “La Plata”

There are a lot of actual play by play records of the greatest moments in sports. This is a particularily cool one put out by Chesterfield cigarettes. Russ Hodges calls the game and the ninth inning home run by Bobby Thomson that beat the Dodgers in 1951.

Water Sports

This is an unusual one. There’s no category for underwater — I wonder if I have another one. We’ll see. Maybe Tony has one. Does anyone have a companion peice to this?

Pooh Bear

img_1848.JPG

This is a nice kid’s record from the UK. Simple. Sweet. Nostalgic. Who didn’t like Winnie the Pooh? I had Kanga and Roo stuffed animals as a kid.
