When Claxton Twelvetrees Press book ‘Jazz’ revived his career in the late 80s, I had just gotten into jazz photography through the master Roy DeCarava, and I was making it my business to meet the great photographers. Clax was the first, and we met in Los Angeles as he was winding down his day job as creative director of Motor Trend, the popular automotive magazine. His generous and kind personality made me understand immediately how Clax had made himself the go-to guy for not only jazz musicians, but fashion designers, models, and movie stars. He’s still going strong with dozens of books and hundreds of albums to his credit. What a great guy.

This was ‘borrowed’ from a Chet Baker record. The arm you see is from him.
