“The Reluctant Golf Pupil” “Professional Golf Instruction in Sophisticated Humor” Starring Reginald Owen and Joe Novak. On Rex. With Jeanne Carmen (“as Felicity Comfort”)

Music for Hand-Jiving on London Records. A compilation of hits by Tommy Steele, The Blue Jeans and The Four Jacks, etc.

Hand-Jiving involves a complicated pattern of hand moves and claps including thigh slapping, cross-wrist slapping, fist pounding, chest slapping and pounding, hand clapping, elbow touching and hitch hike moves. It resembles a highly elaborate version of pat-a-cake. The hand jive was popularized by Johnny Otis’ 1958 hit “Willie and the Hand Jive”. Eric Clapton did a version of the song in 1974 that reached the Top 40.

Funny thing about this – I have Volume 1 and Volume 2. They made a third one! Thanks Calvin at The Disobedient Muse

“Basie Plays Hefti” Roulette Records (1958)

Thoughout the 50’s, Count Basie and composer/arranger Neal Hefti were an incredible team together.   This album is one of their best and it’s overflowing with Hefti gems that include “Cute”, “Pensive Miss”, “Sloo Foot”, “Scoot”, “A Little Tempo Please”, “Count Down”, and “Pony Tail”.   Of course, Hefti later gave us other classics like the themes to “Batman” and “The Odd Couple”.
