Will I win the auction?

records-iv-031.jpg

eBay remains the easiest way to find the most obscure records now that cd’s have taken over most stores (and they’re on their way out too). The dollar bins, (the source of much of our early collections), have disappeared and so too have the days of picking up a cheap record just for a laugh. Bidding on a record just for the cover isn’t so unusual when anyone in the world can see the same auction and appreciate the same thing. And then there are those who want the record for the music or some other reason. Anyway, what was once just a lark, on eBay is a battle. Bidding can go high as the market for the rarest, most unusual covers has developed among a core group of like-minded, fringe collectors. You can think “no one in the world would want this” and then lose to a guy half-way around the world with money to burn. If only there were a crystal ball to see the final bid, sniping would be so much easier.
