Pain in my heart
“The Big Hurt” Miss Toni Fisher Signet Records (1957) The Big Hurt’ was written by the L.A. singer’s husband Wayne Shanklin. The song went to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Notable because it featured phasing effects, and is claimed to be the first song to do so. Feeling bad? Take a teary stroll through our “The Big Hurt” section.

‘The Big Hurt’ is a really cool song. I love the version that Del Shannon did a few years later. This stereo version is actually pretty rare. Usually sells for $60-80 at record shows or Ebay.

if this is true stereo, it’s not likely an issue from ’57; first commercial (i.e. non-experimental) stereo discs really didn’t start appearing until later in ’58

The LP version of “The Big Hurt” didn’t feature the phasing effects. Or my copy doesn’t, at least – later copies might.
