Near as I can tell at this resolution they’re all European – it’s 1956 and AFAIK Japan hasn’t put one out, and apart from the Corvette, nothing from the US unless there’s some tiny limited-production firm. Wish I had this cover to examine.
Mel himself drives a sportscar (an MGA, I think) playing a hood (!) in the 1959 movie ‘Girls Town’ starring Mamie Van Doren and Paul Anka (?!)

Wikipedia told me that Lonnie Burr was known as “the velvet smog”. A nickname resembling the nickname of Mel Torme “The velvet fog”
