The rio used to be a quartet until Gwen came in to record her vocals and unknowingly ended up sitting on the sousaphone player throughout the entire session.

All kidding aside, this is a really rare piece of Jazz vinyl! You sure don’t see this one very often. At first I thought Gwen was Shirley Scott.

This is back when God (Johnny Pate) was young! If you don’t believe he IS God, check out his recently reissued album “OUTRAGEOUS” or, if you can afford it the 3 disc SHAFT Anthology which has about 90 minutes of terrific big orchestra and wah wah peddle psychedelic soul. Johnny Pate is a GIANT, a genius arranger who stands at the the intersection of Jazz and Soul Streets! I thank him for SHAFT, amazing Curtis Mayfield albums and more.
Yeah, I’m a fan. Why do you ask?
