Heather-Harvey & The Thunderbirds   “Birthday”   Pop Sound Records

Heather Batchen was a British girl staying in Singapore. She teamed up with some British servicemen to form Heather with The Diamond Four. Heather was later backed by The Thunderbirds.   Heather’s interpretation of Love is blue (I’amour est bleu) was splendid. Her other more popular hits were: I’ll never be the same, We two forever shall be one, Nobody’s child, Mr. tambourine man. Heather married Harvey Fitzgerald, vocalist and rhythm guitarist of The Thunderbirds.

The Thunderbirds was formed in 1962. The lineup of Derrick Fitzgerald (lead), Harvey Fitzgerald (vocals, rhythm), William Wee (bass), Freddie Tan (drums) recorded a single in 1966 with “My lonely heart” on the A side. The song became No. 1 in Singapore and Malaysia. Harvey sang the haunting ballad with Derrick playing some very effective slide guitar licks using a comb.

She kind of looks like Janice, the lead singer with the band on the Muppet Show.

Kia Ora. I remembered when I was still a teeny bopper listening to the valve radios. I used to enjoy those pops coming out of Singapore. I remembered tunning to “Calling All Hospitals” . That was in the mid and late 1960’s. I then went to study and stayed back in New Zealand, currently sojourning in KLumpur. I am glad that I managed to watch those great oldies from Singapore via You Tube. I always wonder what happens to the Thunderbirds, Naomi & the Boys, Cresendos etc…..
I just wonder where I can purchase CDs of those great Singapore pops of the yester years. If anyone knows, please email me at sing.cest.la.vie@gmail.com

I am a big fan of the fabulous Thunderbirds, I love your songs Lonely Heart and You Were Made For Me To Love. I saw you Harvey and Heather with The Thunderbirds when you came to town, Batu Pahat. I was still in High School and my friend Chew Kim Sai, my senior in High School, of The Radiants hosted the show. Those were the good old days! Sometimes I think of you guys and wonder where are all of you now. I came across Melissa Elusion on YouTube singing Lonely Heart and it was awesome!
