Bloco Carnavalesco “Bafo da Onca” Volume II
The complete name is Bafo da Onça
something like The Breath of the Onça [Jaguar]
Bafo de Onça is a brazilian expression used whem somebody have a bad breath or the breath smell alcohol
Thanks Zab! I did not know that!
The implication being these guys have “jaguar breath” because they indulged on cachaça.
It’s also the Brazilian name for the Mickey Mouse’s nemesis, “Bad Pete”.
Many great sambas came from Bafo da Onça quarters, in Ramos, Rio de Janeiro. It goes something like this:
….Here come the guys, oba! They surely can dance, oba! And the girls swaying, oba! So many women….
One more piece of useless info: the jaguar is playing a cuÃca, a Brazilian friction drum with a typical weeping sound.
Hmmmm… Paper Tiger?
