Music To Read JAMES BOND By United Artists (UK) A compilation of hip, spy movie music by the likes of John Barry, Neil (sic) Hefti, Billy May, Al Caiola, Perez Prado, Riz Ortalani. Cool instrumentals for those wanting to get into James Bond’s shoes for the night. Songs to set the mood include: “The Coolest Pad”; “Love Goddess”; “Pin Up Girls”; “Johnny Cool”; “Goldfinger”; “Scene of the Crime”; etc., etc. Bachelor Pad meets How to Pick Up Girls with a literary premise. There are many, many of these spy-themed and James Bond inspired LPs from the sixties and seventies. There are even two volumes from United Artists with the same title released in the US that have a different track listing. This is a recent discovery and one of our favs!

I found the final piece to my puzzle this week! Appropriately it was the December 1969 release with Santa on the cover – the final issued comp from Capitol records that year and the center image that tied the whole year of covers together. And on the back cover “Merry Christmas from Capitol.” These kind of promotional compilations showcasing individual tracks from the labels stable of recording artists was de rigueur for the day. And many had cover themes that tied the year of monthly releases together, but this collection is the best (and only 12-month puzzle I know of). I was at Groove Merchant on Haight Street in San Francisco a while ago and they have this complete puzzle nicely framed on the wall.

Rosalina Neri Carisch Records (Italy) Neri was an Italian actress who started in films in the late fifties and had a Marilyn Monroe thing going on. She looks pretty hot and sultry on this picture sleeve. Caught my attention.
