   I’d really like to get a glimpse of the back of this sleeve. All the front indicates is that it probably sounds good on a set of headphones. It gives no indication whatsoever of what exactly it is that the listener will be treated to. It could be Beethoven’s 9th, or the sounds of someone belching in one speaker while simultaneously breaking wind in the other.

   westminster was one the cheapest of the budget labels, and this sleeve is surprising in that it has no cheesecake whatsoever (see “speak low” with jayne mansfield on it).

   N.B. At the time this disc was issued, c.1958, Westminster was not a budget label, but a full priced, independent mainly classical label with a good size pop sideline. When the company went belly-up, in the early 1960s, even after a major reorganization, it was ABC-Paramount who stepped up and bought the company. The pop line was discontinued and the old classical releases were re-packaged in the familiar red/orange cover (later pink) generic “Collector’s series” covers. The full price Westminster classical releases continued into the early 70s, when it became the AT/Audio Treasury series, with Westminster Gold as the new budget series (with those collectable covers). Later new owner MCA churned out some re-issues into the early cd era. The tapes now belong to Deutsche Grammophon in Germany.
