Al Green The Belle Album (1977) The first without producer Willie Mitchell and the Hi Records rhythm section and his last album of “secular” music in the Seventies. Not Grade “A” Al, maybe, but here’s a sweet live performance of the title track!

Ah, you say “not grade-A Al,” but I say it’s the one Al Green album I’ve kept going back to over the years. An underrated gem!

Given that his best is among the best music anywhere, we’ll cut him some slack when he doesn’t reach those Olympian heights. The clip is fantatsic, though!
