A fine Burt Goldblatt! To me, one of (or) the most talented and prolific of all the Lp jacket artists (or artists whose work graced a lot of Lp jackets). His B&W jazz photography is up there with the the best of the genre but he also worked in lots of other medias. Illustration, painting, collage. I think one of the reasons he’s not as well known is he worked so many different styles you do not automatically associate his work. Once I began looking closely at a lot of jacket art I had loved for years I started to notice his name was on most of them. I did not realize he had done the painting on the Robert Johnson Columbia Lp until a few years ago. Most of the really nice Bethlehem jackets are his, along with some cool stuff on ABC-Paramount, and many other one offs. Dig it!
Thanks for the info Otis. I know Burt Goldblatt passed away this year. I’ve added a couple links re: Bethlehem records and Goldblatt. I’ll post more as there are many notable and striking designs.
