This one’s for LP cover lover, Red Baron.  The Royal Guardsmen  “The Story of Snoopy and the Red Baron”  Laurie Records   I had this one back in 1967.

David Bowie  “Pinups”  RCA Records (1973)  Released between “Aladin Sane” and “Diamond Dogs.”  The woman on the cover with Bowie is 1960s supermodel Twiggy in a photograph taken by her then-manager Justin de Villeneuve.  In the album booklet, Bowie himself describes Pin Ups as: 

“These songs are among my favourites from the ’64–67′ period of London. / Most of the groups were playing the Ricky-Tick (was it a ‘y’ or an ‘i’?) -Scene club circuit (Marquee, eel pie island la-la). / Some are still with us. /Pretty Things, Them, Yardbirds, Syd’s Pink Floyd, Mojos, Who, Easybeats, Merseys,  The Kinks

“With Love – A Pot Of Flowers”  (1967)  To cash-in on the popularity of the San Francisco music scene, Mainstream records collected some singles by Bay Area groups The Other Side, Euphoria, Harbinger Complex and The Wildflower from labels Garage and Psychedelic Folkrock.   An early collection and interesting time capsule from the summer of love that captures the sound of the Bay Area underground.  Recently reissued with additional tracks.

(Though it’s not on this record) I’ve been thinking about Eddie Cochran (October 2, 1938 – April 17, 1960) and Summertime Blues (1958).   Here’s “Remember Me…” a cool FRENCH Lp on Liberty Records from Uncle Gil’s Rockin’ Archives!     Summertime Blues is ranked number 73 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.     It’s been covered tons.   From The Who (on Live at Leeds, 1970) to the Beach Boys to Blue Cheer and Bruce Springsteen.   Cochran was just 21 when he died in April 1960, in a road accident during his British tour.     In 1987, Cochran was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
