“A great way to live…a tragic way to die” Thanks, Earl Nightingale. Reminds me of those drivers ed. films that scare you straight. I think the fatal mistake was breaking out the accoustic guitar and singing the complete Air Supply songbook. That just pissed God off.

“It All Happens On Saturday”  The Harry Stoneham Five”  (From the BBC TV Parkinson’ Series).  EMI Studio 2.  These two blokes in a boat are living the high life, not a care in the world.  Toasting their own good taste and good fortune.

Clifford Coulter “East Side San Jose” on Impulse ABC Records (1971)  Check out these cats!: Mel Brown, Guitar; Cornelious Bumpus (that’s right!), Saxophone; Jimmy Calhaun, Bass; Billy Ingram, Drums; etc.  Side One opens with a funky, jazzy take on Steely Dan’s “Do It Again,” then the title cut “East Side San Jose” which is great.  For me the stand out track though is “Big Fat Funky Shirley” on side two.

The Ferguson Trio. A righteous threesome for God with a honey of a hotrod and trailer. “Sing the Gospel” on Praise records. Even I’d honk for God if I passed them rolling down the interstate!
